PRE-INSTALLATION:

  • Always wash the hair before installation without cutting off the plastic tie.
  • During the wash, be sure to run your fingers through the hair in a downward motion.
  • Let it air dry.
  • Once dry, the hair should be tangle and shed-free.

If any  problems occur during the pre-installation process, such as excessive matting or shedding, please contact us immediately for consultation.

INSTALLATION:

Follow these steps for bulk hair to ensure that the cuticles are laying in the same direction:

  • Always take hair from the top of the bundle, or the weft, where it is tied.
  • If any strands become loose and fall out, do NOT try to put it back in the bundle. This can cause tangling because there is no way to ensure which way the cuticle is laying.
  • When brushing your hair, be sure to hold at the weft and start brushing from the ends working your way up.

FOR MACHINE-WEFT HAIR:

  • We advise our customers NOT to cut the weft even though they are double stitched.
  • We also recommend not sticking the needle through the weft because this can cause shedding to occur.
  • When brushing the wefts, make sure to hold the top to prevent any tensions from pulling and to always start from the ends working your way up.

DAILY MAINTENANCE:

Natural Straight/Body Wave

  • Gently brush or comb hair using a hair extension brush (loop) or wide tooth comb starting from ends working your way up to the root.
  • Use alcohol free products, low heat settings on hair tools (over-heating will cause frizz), and heat protectant products for extra protection.
  • To help hair from tangling overnight, arrange hair in loose band on either side or back of head (depending on how normally sleep to avoid laying on hair as much as possible.)
  • Avoid going to bed with wet hair because this can cause tangling and matting.

Natural Curly/Deep Wavy

  • Lightly wet the hair with a spray bottle, then using an extensions brush or wide tooth comb, gently work from ends to root.
  • Curly/deep wavy hair usually have a drier texture so while the hair is wet gently smooth over a leave-in-conditioner to help prevent frizzing throughout the day. Be careful not to use an excessive amount.
  • Use alcohol free products, low heat settings on hair tools (over-heating will cause frizz), and heat protectant products for extra protection.
  • Do not brush through hair when it is dry because it will cause frizz. If needed, work through with a large wide tooth comb.
  • To help hair from tangling overnight, arrange hair in loose braid on either side or back of head (depending on how you normally sleep to avoid laying on hair as much as possible.)
  • Avoid going to bed with wet hair because this  can cause tangling and matting.

Closures (Silk and Lace)

  • Our wefts are handmade with delicate hand sewing that allows the hair to be parted in any direction.
  • Since each hair is ventilated through and knotted directly to the closure there is not a lot of support holding the hair making closures very fragile pieces that need to be handled with extra care to prevent them from balding.
  • Balding can occur from the following, but not limited to, excessive tugging, scratching with fingernails and/ or foreign objects, brushing/combing, applying product directly on closure, vigorous washing, or rough handling.
  • To care for your closure, when you brush the hair start from the ends and gently working your way up making sure to hold the hair at the root to prevent tension on the hair.

How to Wash Hair:

  • Depending on the amount of products being used, shampoo at least once a week.
  • Use a shampoo with a pH balance between 4.5 and 5.5 and preferably sulfate-free.
  • To prevent any mineral build up from unfiltered or hard water, wash your extensions with tepid/cool purified or soft water.
  • Hold hair in a vertical position while massaging shampoo in a downwards position.
  • Because the hair strands are not receiving essential vitamins from the scalp, use a conditioner that is moisture-rich.
  • While conditioner is in the hair, comb through hair from ends to scalp using a wide-tooth comb.
  • Rinse thoroughly and let extensions air dry.
  • When washing closures gently massage the shampoo into the hair working in a vertical position letting the hair fall in it’s natural position.

Other Considerations:

Swimming

It is not recommended to swim in a pool or an ocean with hair extensions. If you do, you do at your own risk, but here  are some recommended tips:

  • Before entering the water make sure to remove tangles and to wet extensions to minimize the extensions from absorbing any of the harsh water, and fix in a loose braid.
  • Don’t submerge head or swim under water
  • It is not recommended to wear a swim cap from the chance that is could cause matting from friction or any water that might seep into while swimming.
  • No jumping or diving into the water
  • If hair extensions do become wet it is recommended to wash/shower the hair immediately after and depending if the hair was submerged into the water to use a clarifying shampoo to remove chlorine or salt water, deep condition, and let air dry.

Sunbathing/ Tanning

  • Due to high temperatures and heat it is not recommended to sunbather or use tanning booths regularly or for long amounts of time with hair extensions.
  • If you do, make sure to remove tangles prior to fixing hair into a loose braid at back of neck to prevent tangling or matting from friction and or sweat from laying on hair for extended periods of time.
  • After, let hair cool in braid before removing and brushing to prevent breakage.
  • It is recommended to deep condition after sunbathing or tanning to restore any lost moisture from high temperatures and effects from the sun.
  • Sun can naturally lighten virgin hair so be aware of the amount of sun exposure your extensions are receiving to avoid natural lightening from the sun.

Sauna/Working Out

  • Fix hair in loose braid at back of neck prior to entering sauna or beginning workouts
  •  Wrap hair in a towel or in a tight bun/ponytail which can cause tangling and or matting later on
  • After exiting the sauna the hair will most likely be partially wet due to the moisture let hair cool before removing braid and brushing to prevent breakage, comb through to remove tangles and follow appropriate shampoo and conditioning instructions as needed.

Humidity/Heat

  • When hair is wet work in a leave in conditioner or a natural hair oil to restore moisture.
  • For curly hair textures styling products (alcohol free) like mousses, curl defining gel, etc can help reduce frizz
  • Let hair air dry or use a diffuse hair dryer to let curl set.

Other Tips/Reminders:

  • Use alcohol free products when styling your extensions
  • Use sulfate free shampoos when washing extensions
  • Use a clarifying shampoo at least once a month or as needed, depending on amount of product used, on extensions, but be careful not to overuse or it will cause dryness
  • When using hot tools always make sure to use a heat protectant product to help prevent heat damage and to use appropriate heat settings for different hair textures (fine texture-low heat, medium texture – medium heat, coarse texture – medium-lowest high heat setting)
  • Deep conditioners/leave- in conditioners will be your hair extensions best friend to help restore loss of moisture from daily activities, hot tools, etc
  • When washing hair extensions make sure hair is thoroughly rinsed from shampoo and conditioner to avoid a film or build up to stay on the hair which will cause the hair to become stringy or limp
  • Using too much of a product will also leave a build up on your extensions causing it to become stringy or limp. Only use amount needed for different hair textures: Fine- about the size of a dime, medium- about the size of a nickel, and coarse- about the size of a quarter (these are just approximations)
  • Before sleeping it is recommended to put hair in a loose braid on whichever side you don’t sleep on to avoid laying on it and covering hair in a silk scarf or bonnet it; covering hair in a silk scarf or bonnet  is also recommended to minimize friction against the pillow
  • To have any chemical service done to the hair, (color, perm, etc) you are doing so at your own risk and we always advise to let a licensed professional.
  • Hair extensions, especially longer lengths, need to be maintained by combing throughout the day to avoid tangling or matting from daily activities and/ or weather conditions.
